Delicious wine of New Zealand

Urlar Organic Sauvignon Blanc 2011

This wine demonstrates exactly why Australian winemakers (among others) hate New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.  It is delicious. Light gooseberries on the nose, mouthwatering with a lovely fresh minerality, touch of zesty citrus and tropical passionfruit on the finish. BOOM. According to Urlar there’s a touch of capsicum – I did detect a slight savoury note but hadn’t placed it. I need to ‘try’ this one again.

Easily the best Sav I’ve had in ages – there is a huge glut of very average Sauvignon Blanc still coming out of New Zealand (i.e. Oyster Bay), hopefully this is the sign of things to come…

Did I mention this is made from certified organic grapes and Urlar are all about sustainability and use biodynamic practices?

Around £12 from winestore and they have the 2010 at the Great Western Wine Company
